NEGLECTED BATTERY
Voltage check: The center "V" LED should indicate for a good battery.
Cranking: If the voltage is too low initially the starter motor may crank the engine for a moment or not at all. There may be sufficient power left in the battery to push start the vehicle. A 'jump' start could also get the engine running.
Charging: It is highly likely that a neglected battery (one which has been left discharged for a period of time) will have suffered some degree of sulfation build-up that prevents it from accepting a charge. If the engine manages to start by other means the charging voltage may rise very fast towards its maximum output. A partly sulfated battery may accept limited charge, a completely sulfated battery none at all. The weaker the battery the faster the voltage rise.
